A Modern Tribute to History
Peking University is not only a center of academic excellence but also a place where history meets innovation. The transformation of the School of Mathematical Sciences — located in the historic Zhihua Building — reflects a unique blend of tradition and modernity. Dongxing Group was proud to supply high-performance terrazzo slabs and tiles that respect the past while enabling a sustainable future.

DESIGN | Merging the Old with the New
The renovation preserved the original facade of the historic Zhihua Building (formerly the Electrical Education Building) while reinforcing its structural integrity for seismic and fire resistance — ensuring compliance with modern building codes.
Dongxing’s inorganic terrazzo products were used extensively throughout the project. Selected for their durability, fire resistance, freeze-thaw stability, and eco-friendly attributes, our terrazzo floor solutions played a key role in this architectural upgrade. Customization of textures, colors, and patterns allowed for seamless integration with the building’s heritage style.
Terrazzo Application Highlights
Public lobbies and study zones were laid with Pearl White and Changzhou Gray terrazzo tiles, creating a soft, welcoming palette.
Fantasy Black terrazzo slabs were used in focal areas to add depth and contrast.
A custom terrazzo art parquet was designed to give the flooring a decorative, mosaic-like effect, offering visual continuity throughout different functional zones.

DESIGN | Where Aesthetics Meet Function
Dongxing’s terrazzo flooring offers more than beauty. The non-porous surface ensures hygiene, while its low-maintenance finish is ideal for high-traffic public buildings. In this project:
Terrazzo was chosen not only for visual appeal but also for comfort, slip resistance, and sustainability.
Color zoning with different terrazzo shades helped define functional areas without using physical barriers.
A modular layout allowed flexible interfaces between study spaces, corridors, and common areas.

Sustainable Building Materials for the Future
Dongxing’s terrazzo tiles and slabs are made using eco-conscious materials with a long lifecycle. With zero VOC emissions, high wear resistance, and customization capabilities, terrazzo contributes to green building certifications and long-term environmental stewardship.

DESIGN | Creating a Shared Cultural Space
The renovated areas promote openness, interaction, and learning. Small- and medium-sized public areas are now bright, welcoming, and inspiring, enhanced by terrazzo flooring that flows naturally between the old and the new.
Dongxing’s terrazzo solutions reflect the university’s commitment to academic excellence, cultural continuity, and sustainable design.
